Join Technovation GirlsBC to with our pre-season workshop on getting started with the program. During this event, we’ll go over where to find key resources and how you can get started with curriculum and planning before the program kickoff in January. We’ll discuss finding or creating a team and matching with a mentor and finally wrap up with an ideation presentation and activity.

Embarking on a four-month commitment to build tech solutions for real-world problems is a decision worth celebrating! We are thrilled to kick off BC’s chapter of Technovation Girls for the 2024 season with an evening dedicated to ideating, networking and connecting with the team members with whom you will embark on this journey. Excited to have you all there!

Technovation Girls is a global competition for girls* that form teams and compete to identify a community problem, learn app development skills, and create a tech solution over four months! This year, even an AI-driven app solution is on the table.
Join us for an introductory workshop that will enable you to identify community problems that need addressing while equipping you with basic coding principles for app development. This will be your glimpse into what participating at Technovation Girls can look like!

Beginner Division in Thunkable workshop

This beginner-friendly workshop will focus on app development using Thunkable, which is a drag-and-drop app builder.
Through attending this workshop, students will learn coding concepts that will help them design and build their first mobile app. Students will leave with a basic mobile app that they can continue to work on and personalize for their Technovation GirlsBC 2024 project.
In order to participate in this virtual workshop we recommend having:

MIT App Inventor

We will now be halfway through the Technovation GirlsBC 2024 season. It is time to solidify your technical skills by learning how to code an app!
Our App Inventor event on February 24th at UBC Vancouver campus will teach you how to use MIT's App Inventor and how to integrate two different applications (APIs) for your Technovation app! You will also learn how to make smart user interfaces (UI) and we will dig into how Artificial Intelligence can be integrated into your app. Whether you are in a team or are working individually, this event will be packed with essential learning for you to design an effective app!
This workshop is for all participants who have registered for the Technovation Challenge.
Senior Division Low Code Microcredential Courses
January 18 - April 4 (Thurs) - Offered Online via Zoom
The Low-Code Mobile Application Development microcredential program at the British Columbia Institute of Technology teaches you to create mobile and business apps through visual drag-and-drop interfaces with simple logic, without coding from scratch.
We have the opportunity to offer up to 25 seats to students in grade 12 who would like to gain post-secondary credits and complete the Technovation Girls Program at the same time. This program may be used as Grade 11/12 work experience.
Low-Code Mobile Application Development (LCAD) program is designed to provide you with a blend of practical technical skills and core competencies such as collaboration, digital literacy, critical thinking, and problem-solving that can be applied to a variety of industries. Upon completing this microcredential, you will have greater confidence in your ability to participate as an inventor, innovator, and agent of change to solve practical problems in our rapidly changing world.
This is an accredited post-secondary program. The time commitment is 2-3 hours after school on Thursdays from January 18 to April 4. Some asynchronous work, homework and self-practice are expected beyond the hours of the course and may vary each week based on the students (ranging 1 to 4 hours).

Project & Career Development
Drop-In Coaching Sessions
January 18 - April 4 (Thurs) - Offered Online via Zoom
Coaching sessions are a great way to get feedback and advice without the commitment of weekly mentor sessions. In British Columbia, we will be offering virtual drop-in coaching from February to April on a weekly basis. There are also global coaches that can be booked in advance.
Topic specialists that teams can book time with to get answers to questions around a specific topic:
ideation
coding
artificial intelligence
business
pitching
video production
This can also a great way to get support for your teams in topics outside of your expertise as a mentor
Specific weekly Coaching topics will be released in January 2024. If you plan to work with a coach on a drop-in basis rather than with a mentor please add 'Technovation GirlsBC' as your mentor in the portal.

Technovation GirlsBC is more than just a competition. It is an opportunity to learn skills and to engage with industry professionals! Get inspired by the journeys of post-secondary students and tech professionals, most of whom started just like you—curious, passionate, and ready to make a difference.
Join us for a day dedicated towards touring tech companies based in downtown Vancouver where we will partake in a variety of activities ranging from panel discussions to one-on-one mentor chats!
This Career Exploration Day event is for participants who have registered for the Technovation GirlsBC 2024 Program in the Junior and Senior divisions (13+).

Four months of hard work, creativity and perseverance will finally bear fruit during our Technovation Pitch Event! The event will focus on the crucial phase of refinement; participants will have the opportunity to work with their team, putting final touches on their project with the guidance of ambassadors, mentors and coaches.
To enhance your presentation, we'll conduct a short workshop focused on effective presentations, recording and editing videos, equipping you with the skills needed to create impactful content. This will be followed by dedicated work time, with support available to help you pre-record and edit both your pitch and technical videos.
As the event progresses, each team will have the chance to either give a live presentation or showcase their pre-recorded pitch and technical demonstrations. This feedback is an opportunity to elevate your app solution for the final time before you send your submission off for consideration at the global level!
